We pray in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

We affirm our faith in God as we pray the creed of the Apostles:

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; he ascended into Heaven sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting, Amen.

We pray for this month’s intentions of the Holy Father.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in Heaven; hallowed by Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen

We pray for the virtue of faith.

We pray for the virtue of hope.

The first mystery of the Joyful Mysteries:  The Annunciation. The Archangel Gabriel “announces” to Mary that she shall conceive the Son of God.

Our Father

A virgin will be with child.

1 Hail Mary

Prophet Isaiah Chapter 7:14  “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” [RSV]

2 Hail Mary

Luke Chapter 1: “26 The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.” [RSV]

3 Hail Mary

The Angel appeared and said to her ‘You shall have a son.” 

4 Hail Mary

Luke Chapter 130 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,” [RSV]

5 Hail Mary

Then how the prophet wondered and Mary pondered.

6 Hail Mary

As ProphetIsaiah gave this prophecy to Ahaz as a sign from the Lord, he would ponder that the name ‘Immanuel” meant “God is with us”.  The birth of a child is a symbol of hope for a new generation.

Luke Chapter 2: 19 “But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.” [RSV]

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of your Mercy. Amen.

The 2nd Joyful Mystery:  The Visitation. Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth.

The angel appeared to Zechariah and promised a son.

Luke Chapter 15a In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechari’ah.”  His wife was childless. “13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechari’ah, for your prayer is heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.”

The child leapt in her womb as she greeted Mary. 

4 Hail Mary

Luke Chapter 1: “39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 “And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit” [RSV]

Luke Chapter 1: 24 After these days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and for five months she hid herself, saying, 25 “Thus the Lord has done to me in the days when he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.”

After Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, Luke Chapter 1: “42 she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.  45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” 46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.”

The 3rd Joyful Mystery: The Nativity. Jesus is born.

Out of Bethlehem shall come the shoot from the root of Jessie.

2 Hail Mary

The Prophet Isaiah Chapter 11: “1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. 2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.”

The Prophet Micah Chapter 5:2 But you, O Bethlehem Eph’rathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.”

4 Hail Mary

1 Samuel Chapter 17 “12 Now David was the son of an Eph’rathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. In the days of [King] Saul the man was already old and advanced in years. 13a The three eldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to the battle;” “14 David was the youngest; the three eldest followed Saul, 15 but David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.”

5 Hail Mary

There was no room at the inn and so in the shepherd’s cave perhaps that the shepherds of Jessie used the savior was born. 

6 Hail Mary

Luke Chapter 2:4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”

Consider how truth of the Bethlehem birth was hidden as others said, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”

John Chapter 1:45 Philip found Nathan’a-el, and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathan’a-el said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

Luke Chapter 2: “8 And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

10 Hail Mary

The Fourth Joyful Mystery: The Presentation. Mary and Joseph “present” Jesus in the Temple where they offer their first born Son to God.

Moses gave the law for the redemption of the 1st born.

2 Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Exodus Chapter 13:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 “Consecrate to me all the first-born; whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.”

3 Hail Mary

Exodus Chapter 13: “13b Every first-born of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14 And when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ‘By strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of bondage.”

4 Hail Mary

Exodus Chapter 13: “15 For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of cattle. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all the males that first open the womb; but all the first-born of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes; for by a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.”

5 Hail Mary

Mary and Joseph presented Jesus and offered the doves. 

6 Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Luke Chapter 2:  “22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.””

7 Hail Mary

He who was to redeem the world was first redeemed as prescribed by the faith of his fathers.

8 Hail Mary

Matthew Chapter 1:  “17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.”

Luke Chapter 2:  “25Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.  This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel,* and the holy Spirit was upon him.  26It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.  27He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, 28he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:  29“Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, 30for my eyes have seen your salvation, j 31which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, 32a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.””  [NAB]

10 Hail Mary

The 5th Joyful Mystery: The Finding in the Temple. After losing Him, Mary and Joseph find young Jesus teaching the Rabbis in the Temple.

A voice cries out in the wilderness, make straight the highway. 

2 Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Prophet Isaiah Chapter 35:  “1 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus 2 it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the majesty of our God. 3 Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. 4 Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.”

The Prophet Isaiah Chapter 35: “5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then shall the lame man leap like a stag, and the tongue of the dumb sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7 the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes.”

4 Hail Mary

Prophet Isaiah Chapter 35:  “8 And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not pass over it, and fools shall not err therein.

9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there.”

5 Hail Mary

John Chapter 1: 23 John the Baptizer said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”

6 Hail Mary

Jesus was found teaching in the temple.

When a child is born the pain is forgotten.

Luke Chapter 2: “41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; 43 and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44 but supposing him to be in the company they went a day’s journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; 47 and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously.” 49 And he said to them, “How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50 And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.”

John Chapter 16: “21 When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world 22 So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. l  23On that day you will not question me about anything.  Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.” [NAB].

10 Hail Mary

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

O My Jesus

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of your Mercy. Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, And after this our exile, show unto us the blessed Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement. O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen
